The Exertion Games Lab in RMIT University researches how technology, the body, and play can be merged to create new gaming experiences. I recently joined the lab and am currently investigating Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS) from a serious games perspective. EMS uses electric impulses to cause muscles to contract involuntarily; this has a wide variety of applications, from rehabilitation for stroke patients to strength training for athletes. My aim is to investigate how EMS can augment current game technologies and enable engaging interactions with physiotherapeutic benefits.
